Rockdale County Chairman and CEO Richard A. Oden is inviting the public to join him for the “Community-Oriented Policing Town Hall” on Tuesday, July 12 from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. in the County’s Assembly Hall, 901 Main Street, Conyers, 30012.
The focus of the town hall is to bring government and law enforcement leadership together to dialogue with the community. The discussion will not only be about police-involved shootings across the nation, but it will also be about possible positive solutions to work on community-oriented policing locally.
“As I reflect on what is happening across our country with respect to citizens being shot and killed by law enforcement officers, I felt deeply that it is imperative I host this gathering now,” Oden said.
The goals of the town hall are to bring all types of community facets together, to give the public a chance to ask questions of law enforcement, and for the public to learn about various tools and ways they can become proactive partners in Conyers-Rockdale.
For instance, Oden said, speakers may highlight the need to recruit more officers from the community, why it is important for local youth to engage with law enforcement to build trust and confidence in the justice system, efforts law enforcement officials are making to be a stronger presence in the community, why a Citizen Academy is key and training officers are currently undertaking.
“I believe the community needs to know we care and are just as concerned about safety and unity of citizens and officers, in addition to keeping our streets and residents safe from crime,” he said.
