The last two teams competing in the NBA are part of the men’s professional basketball league in the United States. But how exactly do the NBA Finals operate?
As the NBA Finals begin tomorrow, we want to provide a brief overview of how this event operates and recommend NBA championship betting site.
Eastern Conference and Western Conference
To begin with, it's important to understand that the NBA is divided into two main groups: the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference.
Each Conference consists of 15 teams, divided into three smaller groups known as 'Divisions', with each group containing five teams. This arrangement is primarily based on geographical location to minimize travel distances.
During a regular season, each team plays 82 games.
To qualify for the playoffs, a team must finish in the top six of their Conference. This advancement allows them to move on to the next stage of the competition. Teams that rank between seventh and tenth place (out of a total of fifteen) will participate in what is known as the play-in tournament. This knockout format event determines which two teams will secure the last two spots available in each Conference's playoff bracket.
The playoffs
In each conference, both the Eastern and Western, there are three stages of playoffs: the First Round Playoffs, the Conference Semifinals, and the Conference Finals.
A Playoff is not just one game – it is a best-of-seven series.
The leading eight teams from each Conference are divided into four pairs. Each pair competes in a best-of-seven series, where the first team to secure four victories advances in the playoffs.
The next round will feature four winners from each Conference. These teams will be divided into two groups, with each group consisting of two teams. The teams within each group will compete against one another in a best-of-seven series.
Two teams from each conference will advance from the Semifinals, resulting in four remaining teams combined. Each Conference's two teams will compete against one another in yet another best-of-seven series. Currently, we have reached this stage: the Boston Celtics are up against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Final, while the Dallas Mavericks face off with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Final.
The upcoming phase is the NBA Championships! The champions from both Conference finals will face off against each other in a best-of-seven series for the coveted prize: the NBA Championship.
