Heritage High School Academy for Performing and Visual Arts proudly presents Little Shop of Horrors. Show times are during the evenings from January 21 through 23 and January 28 through 30 at 7:30 p.m. and during matinees on January 24 and January 31 at 2:30 p.m.
Little Shop of Horrors is a 1980s American campy, comedy, horror rock musical. The music is in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop (early Motown) and includes several well-known tunes, including Skid Row (Downtown), Somewhere That’s Green, and Suddenly Seymour.
The play stars Seymour and his colleague, Audrey, who work at Mushnik’s Flower Shop and lament that they cannot escape the slums of New York City, living in a run-down, beat up neighborhood referred to as “Skid Row”. Struggling from a lack of customers, Mr. Mushnik prompts to close the store, only for Audrey to suggest displaying an unusual plant Seymour owns. Immediately attracting a customer, Seymour explains he bought the plant, which he dubbed “Audrey II”, from a Chinese flower shop during a solar eclipse. Attracting business to Mushnik’s shop, the plant soon starts dying, worrying Seymour. Accidentally pricking his finger, he then discovers Audrey II needs human blood to thrive.
“Little Shop of Horrors” is about friendship and love, the price of fame, and ultimately, the difference one person can make.
Heritage High School always presents a fantastic show that’s more exemplary of a Broadway production rather than a high school musical. Join us for Little Shop of Horrors and whatever you do, don’t feed the plant!
