Defending champions Davis Middle School took home the first place trophy again this year at the FIRST LEGO League Rockdale Regional Tournament for robotics hosted at Edwards Middle School on Dec. 12, 2015. The tournament had 22 teams from all over the metro Atlanta area compete, including teams from DeKalb County, Newton County and Columbia County.  The tournament was open to elementary to middle school grades, and for the first time a Junior FIRST LEGO League team from Newton County participated in the tournament. Teams from RCPS included Davis Middle, Memorial Middle (two teams), Edwards Middle (won the Mechanical Design award), Hightower Trail Elementary, Flat Shoals Elementary (two teams; won the Inspiration award and Strategy & Innovation award), Shoal Creek Elementary, Honey Creek Elementary.

The winning teams were: 1st place – The Reducibles from Davis Middle School, 2nd place – Wildcat Brainiacs from West Newton Elementary School in Newton County, 3rd place – Tamara’s Team #2 from J.C. Booth Middle School in Fayette County. Other winning teams include: Mechanical Design award – Edwards Middle School, Inspiration award – Flat Shoals Elementary School, Strategy and Innovation award – Flat Shoals Elementary School.

The first place champions from DMS were Renee George, Aaliyah Beharry, Creighton Goerner, Fionn Fitzgerald, Michael Bolar, Emma McDonald, Isabelle Sanderson, Drew Guadagno, Colin Butler, Corey Kidd.
