First grade students at Peachtree Academy studied the water cycle and loved performing some science experiments with their teachers. The children really understood the concepts better by actively engaging in the learning process. The students poured water into a glass and put shaving cream on the top to represent clouds. Then they put several drops of blue food coloring on the clouds and watched patiently as the food coloring made its way through the shaving cream. The class guessed if the drops would make it through the shaving cream or not. When it did, it actually looked like streams of rain. It helped them to visualize how clouds get full and heavy and then precipitation occurs. Cool experiment to do and it looked pretty.
