Students in the Academy for Pre-Medical Sciences at Edwards Middle School (EMS) had a chance to see a headquarters of public health in the United States with a visit to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta in December 2015. Students learned about the detective skills epidemiologists need, the simple but powerful tools they can use to prevent the spread of deadly and crippling diseases, and how the work of public health professionals affects public policy.
Students in the selective Academy of Pre-Medical Sciences at EMS explore careers in the medical field while acquiring skills and knowledge needed for a high school medical program. Fields explored include pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation services, dentistry, respiratory therapy, medical lab technology, biotechnology, emergency services, nursing, and health informatics.
