6 NCCA Computer Repair Pathway Students re-furbished a total of 90 Desktop Computers last school year.
The first Distribution was held in December 2014, with 15 Middle School Families awarded the computers through a lottery drawing. The cost of the computer package including CPU, Monitor, Keyboard, mouse, cords and mousepad for $25.00.
The second Distribution was held in April, 2015 with 25 Desktop Computers awarded to Middle School Families. Middle School was our target group. The proceeds of the sales went back into the program and each student worker was awarded $50.00 for their labor.
Over the summer the Computer Repair Students re-imaged 50 CPU’s along with the help of our School Technology representative. 5 of the original students graduated and so we recruited a new team of IT students who have backgrounds in repair and programming.
This Fall, 5 returning students finished the refurbishing along with packaging the cords and cleaning the monitors and keyboards. They were on hand during the two nights of distribution to help families with any hardware questions. We distributed 42 of the original 50 computers that were re-imaged over the summer to High School students.
A total of 82 Newton County School System families who benefitted from this program since 2014.
