Conyers Rockdale Economic Development Council (CREDC) Announces the Purchase of 2030 East Park Drive, former East Mountain Studios, and Welcomes Eastside Stageworks
Built by Takahashi Works in 1990 to manufacture heavy equipment cabs (think front end loaders and tractors), in 2000 this plant closed. The property was purchased by Clarence Hall in 2005.
This 130,000sf building on 23 acres remained empty until 2009 when Georgia’s Entertainment Industry Investment Act (film tax credits) brought more than 300+ film productions to the state. “For the past 8 years, CREDC has facilitated leasing this industrial building and others in Conyers Rockdale as production sound stages for big budget feature films like Universal’s Fast and Furious Five and American Reunion, Columbia Pictures’ Zombieland, Sony Pictures’ Goosebumps, as well as several smaller productions filmed for television,” said Gina Hartsell, Project Manager and Camera Ready Film Liaison for Conyers and Rockdale County.
John Raulet, part owner in Mailing Avenue Stageworks and Westside Stageworks, assembled a group of local investors to purchase the property. They pre-leased the building to a major studio already filming in the area. The facility will be renamed East Side Stageworks.
John Raulet stated, “When we were presented with an opportunity to add a Conyers facility into the Stageworks family, we jumped at the chance. There were two key factors that made this decision very easy; one – a very healthy industrial real estate market and two – a very solid base of film infrastructure that serves the area. This building will allow the studio to further expand their production activity in the area. When a studio puts that much time, effort, and money into creating a production hub, it’s not something that they like to walk away from. Even if this particular show gets cancelled, we feel very comfortable that Warner Brothers is committed to shooting content in Conyers for the long term. Oh…and it’s nice to get out of the city!”
Rockdale County is home to Warner Bros. Entertainment, who currently leases approximately 350,000sf of production sound stage space in several buildings, employing 300+ employees. Twentieth Century Fox currently leases 216,000sf of industrial warehouse space in 2 buildings in Rockdale County that are now production sound stages, employing 300+ employees.
CREDCl represents both Rockdale County and the City of Conyers. The mission of CREDC is to promote and enhance the economic vitality of the community through the retention and/or expansion of existing business and the resource appropriate attraction of new business.
