Courtesy Ford invites you to take a free test drive during their Drive for Your School campaign on March 11th. There will be food, fun, and door prizes! The event will take place from 11 am to 3 pm at the Courtesy Ford dealership located at 1636 Dogwood Drive, SE in Conyers, Georgia. When you test drive a Ford, Courtesy will donate $20 to The Academy of Performing and Visual Arts at Heritage High School.
Students enrolled in The Academy of Performing and Visual Arts have an amazing opportunity. Funds like those from the Drive for Your School event help the school to bring in guest artists to work with the students and share tips from their specialty. The guest artists include vocal coaches, percussion specialists, film and television professionals, and dance and visual artists. The added funds will also help students to do more performances to get real experience that indirectly benefits our local middle schools. The Academy students frequently work with younger students at Memorial Middle School, Davis Middle School, and other local middle schools, and plan to provide more performances at these schools.
The Academy of Performing and Visual Arts was founded in 2014 for students living in Rockdale County who have exceptional talent in the arts. Hundreds of artistically gifted students are enrolled in the program, which prepares them to be vocationally ready for an arts career.
According to Michelle Thorne, Coordinator for the Academy of Performing and Visual Arts at Heritage High School, “Through the experience and knowledge gained our program, students are able to see their dreams come true. They are able to go all over the world to study.”
When describing the opportunities for the students, Michelle Thorne added, “We have a student who never danced before ninth grade who now has a full scholarship.”
Students must apply and, when accepted into the program, they choose a direction in one of five majors: dance, drama or technical theatre, instrumental music, visual arts, and vocal music. The goal is to develop and nurture the talented young artists for successful vocations, avocations, and advocacy in the arts through extensive training programs and classes while maintaining high academic achievements.
