On Monday August 17, 2015, the Conyers-Rockdale Toastmasters Club celebrated their 40th club anniversary. The highlight of the night was the speech of long time Toastmaster Freeman Barber. The 90 year Mr. Barber who was born in 1925 and joined toastmasters in 1955 in Conyers, GA.
Mr. Barber started out by sharing some wisdom with the members such as “What you put in Toastmasters is what you will get out of Toastmasters.” One the most important things he has learned while making speeches is getting to the point quickly.” Mr. Barber stated when he started there were no women involved in Toastmasters; women were not allowed until 1975 when they created the Toastmistresses. During Mr. Barber’s earlier years in Toastmasters, he was a self-employed salesman. During his earlier years, most of the members of Toastmasters were men of distinction, such as doctors, lawyers, and bankers.
Other speakers of the evening were Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Ben Marsh, who was a long time member of the Conyers-Rockdale club and DTM John Lewallen: the longest tenured member of the club today.
You are cordially invited to visit the Conyers-Rockdale Toastmasters club, which meets every Monday night at 7:15pm. The meetings are held at Springfield Baptist Church located at 1873 Iris Drive SE Conyers, GA 30013.
