The Conyers-Rockdale Council for the Arts announces Shelli Siebert as its new Executive Director. Taking the reins this week Ms. Siebert brings over 20 years of non-profit experience to the Council. Experience that she hopes will help the Council continue to grow and thrive in the Conyers-Rockdale Community.
Ms. Siebert has lived in the Conyers-Rockdale Community for over 40 years, calling this community ‘home’. Having gone to school here, graduating from Heritage High School when it was brand new and no awards having been won yet really does mean something to her.
Ms. Siebert says her roots and passion run deep in the community. “My first job was working at Beasley Drug Store throughout High School. At that counter I learned the true meaning of community from the likes of Judge Clarence Vaughn, Sheriff JT Wallace, Doctor Joe Brown, Mr. Gus Barksdale and so many others.” I didn’t know how but I knew that it was important to invest in your community and I hoped one day I could do that. The faces at the counter may have changed over the years but commitment has not, I still learn from these ‘hometown’ people all the time. That is why I am so excited about this new adventure in my life…I am home.
Working in Metro Atlanta and throughout the State of Georgia has been a wonderful experience I have met so many great people, worked with great communities and learned so much. But it was time to come home. I hope that I can take all that I have learned and experienced and bring that to the Arts Council. The Arts are no longer just Theater, or painting, it is quality of life and economic Development issue. If we are to continue to be a vibrant community we must collectively support and develop a strong Arts Community. My goal and that of the Board of Directors is to find out what that looks like and how we can achieve it. Partnerships are important to any organization and that will be a priority for me, in the traditional and non-traditional sense partnerships are key.
Established in 1989 and located at 910 Center Street, the Conyers/Rockdale Council for the arts promotes live theatre, music, fine arts, comedy, children’s programs and art classes.
