Coffee Break with Dr. Andrea…Activate Your Inner Hero

Business Expert Advice Featured

ABowensJones-CoffeeBreak-picI remember waking up early on Saturdays to watch reruns of the popular cartoon Super Friends. I loved all the characters, but the Wonder Twins were among my favorites. My sister and I would run through the house (when Mom wasn’t watching) touching our fists together while reciting the phrase, “Wonder Twin powers activate!”

Much like the Wonder Twins, we were able to activate our inner strength, transforming it into whatever we needed to get the job done. The phrases “In the shape of…” and “In the form of…” announced to all those coming against us what we were becoming. As super heroes we were able to defy the things that would normally be obstacles. As a child, those obstacles were a pile of dirty dishes keeping us from playing outside or a dirty room standing in way of being able to with our dolls.

What happens to that level of creativity as we get older? As children we feel as if the impossible is possible and the make-believe is real. After all, becoming a giant pair of hands did help me clean dishes faster! In reality we’re not morphing into creatures or things to help us fight our battles, but we do possess the ability to access our inner strength to push toward success.

The problem is we forget as life presents its challenges. We are all equipped with a certain level of talents that gives us unique abilities. These superhero-like abilities remain dormant inside of us until we activate them.

Activating your inner hero is the ability to turn on your inner strengths to fight your battles. A battle is defined as fight or struggle to achieve or resist something. Now, these battles can be with your career, your family, or inside of you. So, how do you pull out the “strong man” or “strong woman” inside of you? This is likely not an easy task if you’re in the midst of your battle – feeling weak and discouraged. But, it starts by taking your power stance and accessing your activation C.O.D.E.

Courage to Overcome Despite the Event.

Taking a power stance is about making a choice not to run and hide but to stand and fight. When you make this decision it summons your inner strength and releases your courage. This enables you to be victorious despite the outcome. Sometimes it’s not about winning. It about the choosing to fight.

Think about it! Every superhero had a way they prepared for the battle. For Clark Kent, it was going into the telephone booth. For Bruce Wayne, he went into the Bat Cave. Whatever the obstacle, being courageous to face it is activating your inner hero. For me my inner hero was the ability to morph into anything upon command. So, who/what is your inner hero? Learn it, and activate it!
