Rockdale County Chief Magistrate Judge Phinia Aten has reappointed current Magistrate Judges Cindy Stacey and Garland Moore to a new four-year term starting January 1, 2023. Rockdale County Superior Court Judge Robert Mumford administered the oaths of office to Stacey and Moore on December 20, 2016.
“We make a great team and I couldn’t be more proud of each one of them individually as well for their committed judicial service and positive impact in our community as active volunteers and contributors beyond the courthouse steps,” said Aten. “Judge Stacey, who began serving on February 1, 1998, is the county’s longest-serving sitting judge. I am grateful that she still has a passion for justice and public service,” added Aten. “I am honored to be reappointed to another term continuing my 19 years of service to Rockdale County as a magistrate judge,” said Stacey.
As part-time judges, Stacey and Moore are able to maintain their law practices under Georgia law. Stacey has a bankruptcy and social security law practice while Moore focuses on criminal defense and domestic relations work as a litigator. Both have law offices in Conyers and are long-standing volunteer attorneys for the Rockdale County Family Information Center.
“Our very own Judge Moore received the 2016 Humanitarian Award from the Georgia Council of Magistrate Court Judges at our annual meeting. His dedication to the Rotary Club is legendary and his 30-year plus support of the Boys Scouts of America, among other civic contributions, is exemplary community engagement,” said Aten. Moore previously served as a county magistrate judge from 1998 through 2008 and was reappointed in 2013, when Aten became the chief magistrate judge. “I was honored to be sworn in for another four-year term as an associate judge for the Rockdale County Magistrate Court. I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Rockdale County, Georgia,” said Moore.
Earlier this year, Aten received a 2016 Servant Leadership Award from the Georgia Women Legislative Caucus and Pinnacle Award from the Fortitude Educational and Cultural Development Center, Inc. “The community recognition that has been lauded on this administration during our first term, the opportunity to continue making court improvements and association with such wonderful partners as Moore and Stacey and our clerks, makes me look forward to our second term together,” said Aten.
