The public is invited to the Board of Commissioners Work Session, Tues., Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. in the Assembly Hall, 901 Main Street, Conyers, 30012, to witness Chairman Richard Oden receive special recognition for his eight years of public service to the community.
During the meeting, Commissioner Oz Nesbitt and Commissioner Doreen Williams will present Chairman Oden with a proclamation declaring Dec. 6, 2016 as Chairman Richard A. Oden Appreciation Day along with a memento commemorating his years of service. The public is welcome to share words of gratitude and well wishes to Chairman Oden during the public comment portion of the agenda.
Elected in 2008, Oden served two, four-year terms as Chairman and CEO. Oden was the first African American elected as Chairman and CEO in Rockdale County. During his tenure, he served in leadership roles for local and regional boards including the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) and the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC).
He is also the recipient of several prestigious awards such as the Atlanta Business League’s 2009 Men of Influence Class, the National Association of Minority Contractors 2011 Trailblazer Award, Rockdale Chapter of the NAACP’s 2013 Jean L. Williams Community Service Award, and the ACCG 2016 Emory Greene Leadership Award among many others.
Chairman Oden shared comments about his accomplishments with the County in the final edition of his e-newsletter including Rockdale County earning bronze designation as an ARC Green Community and well wishes for Rockdale’s forward progress. Oden’s term expires Dec. 31.
