I have a new position, a new title and well just a new role in life. I am happy to have been chosen as the new Executive Director of the Conyers Rockdale Council for the Arts. I am going to love this adventure. I enjoyed my last position in the so called ‘for profit’ world but honestly it just wasn’t me. I am a non-profit kind of gal. However, these days just about anything can be non-profit. I digress.
There are many reasons I am excited to be representing this great organization. My board chair is the ultimate of cool; she represents kindness, graciousness, enthusiasm and all around good sense. The entire board is committed to arts in the community and frankly a good group of folks. Caroline however, understands that art is more than art; it is quality of life, economic development and education she just gets it. I like people that get it. Caroline, like me is from Conyers so she gets that too.
As diverse as my background is I am not an artistic person, I am however a non-profit person. As for art, well I like it. I am as I have said many times a community person so anything I can do to participate in the overall quality of life in the town I call home I want to do it. One of my biggest joys of being the Director is my office is in Olde Town, guess what folks, I love Olde Town! I can look out my window and literally watch the town go by. How wonderful for me. I can go to Beasley’s for a cup of coffee and visit with Coach Estes, who if you don’t know Coach is one of the greatest people anyone can know. I can pop down to Jorge’s for lunch, and most importantly at the end of the day I can enjoy my adult beverage at any number of our local watering holes.
Back to the art. No, I am not an artist but I do appreciate the arts, all types. I like food, so I find there to be a place for culinary arts, I love music and theater, painting and drawing. Having said that what I will love about my new position is taking the appreciation I have and making good things happen in Conyers and Rockdale County and frankly learning more about the arts. I look forward to celebrating those who are artists, artists of any and all kinds of talents.
Our Arts Council is celebrating 25 Years in Conyers and Rockdale County. I am proud and excited to be participating in the next chapter of this organization, it is a privilege. The first thing I will be doing is helping the Council and the Community celebrate the life and legacy of Paula Vaughn. If it weren’t for the outstanding vision and leadership of Paula I am not certain there would be an Arts Council today. She stood for all things good in a person and especially an artist and art enthusiast.
So my artistic talent if I could admit I have one, well, that would be celebrating people and the first person I have the pleasure of celebrating in the Art World is Paula Vaughn…boy am I a lucky person!!!
See y’all around town!
