“ONE VOICE, UNITED IN PRAYER” is the theme for the 63rd Annual National Day of Prayer, with Anne Graham Lotz as the 2014 Honorary Chairman.
The mission of the National Day of Prayer Task Force is to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture.
The first call for the Nation to pray was in 1775 by the Continental Congress. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln called for prayer. The United States Congress passed a bill in 1952 creating the National Day of Prayer for the nation and was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
Every President since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.
There has never been a time in America’s history that prayer has not been needed and that holds true for 2014. Our founding fathers were on their knees at the very beginning of this republic. The need is just as urgent as today and it is time for the nation to unite in prayer for guidance and directions for the seven areas of influence in our culture.
The 7 areas to be lifted up in prayer are:
1. The Government
2. Military
3. Media, as each of these have such an influence on how we live our lives.
4. Business, as this effects jobs, financial centers, products for consumers.
5. Education, how are children, pre-school to college are educated.
6. Our Churches and religious organizations to stay free to worship and share the Gospel.
7. Family and Friends, those closest to us that God may provide and protect.
Conyers First United Methodist Church has been a host for the NDP event since 2006 and invites all who want a place to pray to feel welcome to come on Thursday, May 1.
