Autocross 3

Autocross is the cheapest form of motorsport there is, and this page is the third of an owner's photograph sets from one national marque meet — the one that follows the drivers who took it seriously. A course is laid out in cones on a large piece of tarmac, cars run one at a time against the clock, and a driver gets a handful of runs in a day. Nothing is wheel to wheel, so a car that is driven home afterwards is the normal outcome.

The pictures catch the parts of the day that are not in the results. Drivers waiting their turn in the staging line, someone getting directions to the start, a very quick sports car prepared by a well known garage setting the fastest time of the day, and another driver chasing it through the same corner. The people named in those captions were regulars on the marque's mailing list, which is why a page of snapshots became a document the community kept.
