The Ingram Family of Better Plumbing Services is celebrating 110 years of plumbing in Georgia. The Ingram Family is now in their fifth generation of plumbers which started in Atlanta in 1905. Ben Ingram, the great-grandfather of Rick Ingram, was often noted as taking the trolley on the dirt streets of Atlanta with his toolbox in hand to perform plumbing for the residents.

Jim Ingram, Rick’s grandfather, ran his business for many years on Candler Road in Decatur before his son Richard took over after his death. Richard’s son Rick moved to Conyers and then Covington continuing the family trade. Rick’s son Jimmy is now the fifth generation and hopefully will be the next business owner to continue the family tradition.

Not many businesses can claim five generations and 110 years of plumbing knowledge and experience. The Ingram family migrated east during these five generations from Atlanta, to Decatur, to Conyers, and then to Covington. Their main office has been located in Conyers for over 28 years. The Ingram family was influential in the plumbing trade and engaged in helping to create the Georgia Plumbing Code, which has in recent years adopted the Federal Plumbing Code. Most of the Ingram family members were trained in the Local 72 Plumbing and Mechanical Union located in Atlanta and several generations studied at Georgia Tech.

The Ingram Family has always been involved with the surrounding communities and worked for many years with the youth in DeKalb, Henry, Newton, and Rockdale counties. They have performed animal rescue and have been involved with the surrounding chambers for many years.
