The Maronite religion started when Christians started following a certain preacher named Maron. Maron decided to move to the mountains so he could worship God in solitude. While there, he discovered that his true calling was to preach the word of God. After years of preaching he gained a large following, which called them selves the Maronites. Many Lebanese-Americans are Maronite Christians who have brought Maronite religion to America. My great-grandmother Mary Jo Coddington attends mass at Our Lady Lebanon church, which is a Maronite Catholic church. Mass is spoken in Arabic, English, and Aramaic (Syriac). Lebanon has seventeen known religions; Maronite is the most popular to Lebanese-Americans. Lebanese people also believe that a mountain in the town of Zgarta near Ehden is where the Garden of Eden was. They believe this because there is a flowering bush that always flowers and never withers.
