THANGKA PAINTING INSTRUCTION

The course structure will be designed to fit the overall skill level of its participants. Lama Tsondru’s approach will accommodate the individual needs of students while also allowing for suitable progression within the course. Familiarity with Buddhism is not required.

A foundation in art is not required as this course is open to all levels of ability from beginners to skillful artists. Prospective students will meet with Lama Tsondru to discuss their interest and assess their skill level. The flexibility of the course structure will allow for varying levels of advancement based on personal ability.

Initial instruction will include a detailed explanation of the significance of using specific techniques in thangka painting and the importance of the materials used in its creation. Students will begin by learning fundamental skills and brush techniques, including Tibetan calligraphy. This foundation will provide the unique skills necessary for the creation of a sacred thangka.

Choosing a proper image for a thangka painting plays a major role in the type and extent of the instruction a student will require. Lama Tsondru and his staff will assist students in choosing their thangka image based on the outcome that the student desires.
