Black Shoals Retreat House and Nature Trail Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held October 20th. The Rockdale County Department of Recreation & Maintenance held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Black Shoals Retreat House and Nature Trail on Mon., Oct. 20th.
“We are truly proud of the work that’s been done to develop this special project, so we’re putting a lot of energy and focus into making it a special celebration for the entire community,” Recreation & Maintenance Director Jackie Lunsford said. “Our citizens are sure to enjoy this first-class facility overlooking part of our beautiful trail system.”
The Retreat House is the first-ever indoor facility at Black Shoals Park and the adjoining Veteran’s Park/Walk of Heroes. The facility has heat and air, flush toilets, a warming kitchen, a porch with picnic tables, and space for large meetings or events. Additional features include an outdoor lawn and stage with electrical outlets, a new playground, and a walking path that connects to the fishing pier and nature trail.
The Retreat House will be available to citizens and non-county residents for meetings, parties, weddings, and other special occasion rentals. Beginning in January, the new facility will offer community classes and programs such as yoga on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony, visitors participated in a group walk to see firsthand the natural beauty of the 1.8-mile non-pavement scenic multi-use trail.
