St. Saviour’s Church Nursery School

Our Curriculum Expands Your Child's World

Saint Saviour’s approach to curriculum uses classic stories as well as rich contemporary tales as the central theme for integrated learning experiences. Children are encouraged to give their imaginations free rein: to act out a story collaboratively; to change its ending; or to add new characters. Children are encouraged to explore their experience of the story by using an ever-changing palate of materials in the art center, block center, dramatic play center, sensory tables, or the literacy center. We call this a storybook journey.

Children, in partnership with the teacher, are encouraged to direct the path of the curriculum to reflect their particular interests and needs. This approach creates a sense of ownership and partnership with others, which generates excitement and stimulates intellectual curiosity.

We work within a framework of broad developmental goals, the Connecticut Preschool Curriculum Framework, to maximize each child’s potential. Each child’s progress is authentically and meaningfully assessed and shared with parents. This joyful environment of children fully engaged in play supports both the individual child’s experience and the collective experience of the class.
