A city of 12,000 people about 40 Km west of Temesvar on the Romanian-Serbian border.
Founded by German settlers and inhabited by Germans until the early 1900's. Only a few hundred Germans remain.

This is the oldest picture I have of a
Ludwig Schütz. He
is either the father of Ludwig Hans, or his grandfather, my great
great grandfather.
This is an enlargement of
the insignias on the collar of the above picture. Does anyone
have any ideas? Is it Army? Fire Dept.? About what year is the
Uniform? E-mail me with some ideas.

I am sorry to announce that Susanna Wiesenmayer Schütz died on Jan. 17, 1998 at 103 years old. At the time of her death she was the oldest person in Hatzfeld. She is survived by her daughter Eva who still lives in Hatzfeld.
