I examined a fragment from the crystal you recovered. As you suspected, passing sunlight through it at various angles seems to produce different patterns based on the wavelengths of light. There are literally millions of unique patterns and I don't think they are random. My guess is that there is information stored within the crystal and that it is based on a technology much more advanced than what we know as quantum cryptography. The energy required for my experiments was so great that I enlisted the help of Nick's powers. Looking at the patterns with the naked eye could cause blindness so I used a camera with a filter that was connected to my computer to capture some of the patterns and then wrote the Medusa program to look at them and extrapolate the key structure to the left. Below is the first pattern I found.
