The Midget Era Begins

In this period of time I was taking the step up the ladder to full midgets.

My first midget ride came in the World Series of Racing at the Thompson International Speedway in the Fall of 1975.

The following year I painted it up.   The chassis was a Hilligas and it was powered by a Ford Falcon motor.   I raced it a few times, then again I took a few years off.

After a few years off to regroup, I became the "Crew Chief" on Dick Percival's number "29".
But I really wanted to get behind the wheel again.  In the middle of the season, I took the "29" to Madnadnock Speedway early.   I strapped in and went out for warm ups.  At this point I really had the need to get my own car once again.

Edmunds The following year I purchased a "Don Edmunds" midget from Jim Ferrick.  It was powered by a "John Ryan Volkswagen".

You might say Jim was most instrumental in helping me get going in a "First Class" ride.

My first year I ran with NEMA.  I won the "Rookie of the Year" award and finish 12th, in points.

I also had my first taste of DIRT.  At that time USAC/ARDC/NEMA had a tri club series of races.  That first start was at 5 Mile Point Speedway, in NY.

I got to race against the best in the business, including Kenny Schrader, Rich Volgler, Gene Genetten, to name a few.
