I want to thank everyone who has helped me through out the year and I'm making plans for next year all ready.
Date:4/25/98:

The track Port Royal: in Pennsylvania, DNS for the feature.
This picture was taken at Port Royal just before my steering box broke
and put us into the first turn wall. This happened in my heat. I was on
my way home by the time the feature started.
Date 8/14/98:

Track New Egypt, in New Jersey: Finished 4th in the Feature.
These two are from New Egypt, where we WON our heat and just lost a 3rd place finish with a couple of laps to go. The 49 finished 2nd.
Date 8/22/98:

Track Lincoln, New Oxford, Pennsylvania: Finished 14th in the Feature.
Here me and Mike Lapp battled like this for many laps. Too bad it wasn't for the win.
Race Up Date 9-12-98:
Well we made it through another 24 HOUR sleepless day. There was another stellar field of cars tonight at Lincoln. I believe there was 28 cars on hand. We ran pretty good. We got a 5th in the heat and finished 9th in the feature. We were running about 5th in the feature, when the engine started to got HOT, 360 degrees worth and the oil pressure went to between 10 to 40 PSI so I had to just HANG and hope the engine didn't blow up, until the CHECKER. So I wound up finishing 9th. Not bad for our little Auto-Craft VW, giving up the 30 to 50 horsepower to the other engines.
Now the car all comes a part and the engine goes out for rebuild and every other piece has to be gone through and checked out. Hopefully I'll be ready by the first of the year and be ready for the opener with time to spare.
Race Up Date 9-11-98:
Well I've decided to go to Lincoln tomorrow night and race without
the WING. I've spent the last few days converting the car over to the NON-WING
set up. So I'll head down the road and I'll see what happens tomorrow night.
Stay tune for more!!!!!
Race Up Date 8-23-98:
Place was Lincoln speedway. We definitely could have used more horse power. We ran well but not well enough. Finished 6th in the heat and that was because I couldn't see. My tear offs got covered and that was enough to take me out of contention.
We started 18th in the feature and wound up finishing 14th. I had a good battle going with Mike Lapp and to bad we both were so far off the pace of the leaders.
It was a 660 mile round trip and the ride home was fun. When I got back into New Jersey I finally had to pull off into a rest area because I couldn't see. It was hailing most of the way across route 78 and I couldn't see any more. So I decided to pull into a rest area and get a couple of hours sleep.
Race Up Date 8-21-98:
Make sure to check out this weeks Area Auto Racing News. Earl Krause mentioned me in his weekly column and I would like to say thanks Earl for the piece.
Race Up Date 8-16-98:
Place New Egypt, New Jersey. Track 1/3 "D" shaped oval.
A stellar field of ARDC midgets arrived for a night of racing. The track was SLICK, but our little VW was one of the class in the field. Right off the truck we were fast. We only made one adjustment all night. We WON our heat and we finished 4th in the feature. We were running 3rd with two laps to go and my tires started to go away. I was running the bottom and the 4th place car was running at the top and got by us with 2 to go. Just missed that podium finish.
Next week it's on to Lincoln and let's hope our LUCK continues.
Race Up date 8-16-98:
Never made it to Port Royal. Woke up late, no help, no ambition, stayed home. (old age I guess is settling in).
Next race Saturday August 15, New Egypt in New Jersey.
Race Update 7-14-98:
We got RAINED out in Elizabeth City on Friday. We towed all the way to the track just to turn around and come home. They got 8 inches of rain on Thursday and when we left the track it had just started to rain and thunder.
It was just "One of those racing deals". A 1,200 mile round trip in 36 hours.
Race Update 7-12-98:
It's getting to be that time to start the second half of the "DIRT" race season. We will be racing this Friday at the Dixieland Speedway in Elizabeth City, NC. We'll have the car race ready today, Sunday and will be leaving for the race Thursday morning. It is a 522 mile ride and takes about 10 hours.
Race Up Date 5-17-98:
New Egypt, New Jersey was the place, 27 cars started the feature on this 1/3 mile "D" shaped BLACK CLAY track. We were off all night on our set up. Went from a bad "PUSH" in the heat to a very "LOOSE" set up in the feature. We started 22nd and finished 19th.
It was almost a green to checker finish and it was a very exciting race to watch. Only a couple of cars dropped out. We were just holding on because of our set up being off. I was a little disappointed that we didn't finish better, but in the long run we finished a night of racing and brought everything home in one piece. By noon on Sunday I had the car all washed and cleaned up and ready for the next race, too bad the next race isn't until July 17th in North Carolina.
Race Up Date 5-9-98:
RAIN RAIN and more RAIN. We now have to wait until next Saturday and go race on the dirt in New Egypt, NJ.
Race Up Date 5-7-98:
We are all ready to go to Williams Grove
Speedway on Friday night. The weather doesn't look too promising. Let's
keep our fingers crossed. If we do good at the Grove, and get back home
in time, we might go to Waterford and run in their rained out make up feature.
I was told that if we go we would have to start last since all the qualifying
has been completed.
