NEWS/UPDATES

Sunday, 5/12/02: Hi there! Welcome to Foreign Screams, your #1 source for obscure horror cinema! Great to have you along. I started this site for one reason: to do justice to these wonderful (and sometimes loveably awful!) films through careful, thoughtful analysis and real enthusiasm. A little about myself (don't worry, this won't take long!). I've been a long-time fan and scholar of these films and, as you can tell from the sight, have written extensively on them. As the site matures, I will periodically be adding some of my print articles (published in books and magazines) here exclusively! But for now, I hope you enjoy the content already posted-there's lots already here! And be sure to check out the "capsule review" section, where some of the rarest and most intriguing films can be found! And all of the writings in that section are all new and exclusive to this site! It is my sincere wish that this site will entertain, inform and amuse you the reader for years to come! Keep your eyes on this section for all the latest updates!

Monday, 5/13/02: Added Killer Snakes capsule review.

Wednesday, 5/15/02: Added new section, Bits and Pieces.

Friday, 5/24/02: Added Captured for Sex 2 capsule review.

Friday, 5/31/02: Added the "(In)Visible Wounds: The Horror Films of Vietnam" essay.

Sunday, 7/7/02: Wow! It's been a little while! Sorry for the lack of updates guys. I've been unusually busy. But I have a new capsule review of the Mexican horror Trampa Infernal all ready for ya! Check it out and I should have more capsules done soon, as I am expecting some new titles. I'll also have a little splash on the Blind Dead series soon, as well as some info on its late, great director, Amando de Ossorio.

Tuesday, 7/9/02: New links added! I've added some great new websites to the links section. Look for a meaty update this weekend. Hooray!

Saturday, 7/13/02: An update you can sink your teeth into! The Blind Dead splash is up, as well as the de Ossorio bio, AND a new capsule review of the 1973 Alan Rudolph oddity Barn of the Naked Dead!

Wednesday, 8/14/02: Well, I'm back with another (small) update! But it's an important one! First off, there is a new capsule review of the Spanish rarity Morbus in the Capsule Review section. Secondly, FAB Press has recently updated their website with their new release schedule, which includes info on the publication on world horror, Fear Without Frontiers: Horror Cinema across the Globe. Yours truly wrote the section on Indonesian horror! Below is a photo of the front cover! If you can't tell what the film is on the cover, it's from Snaker, a recent Cambodian production on the often filmed South Seas Queen legend (many Indonesian films have been made about her as well. I've reviewed one of them [Hungry Snake Woman] in the Midnight Video Reviews section of this site). Look for the book late winter this year. And who knows, maybe I'll post some of my article FOR FREE on this website. Keep your eyes peeled! For now, you can read my abstract of my article here *And finally, an important notice about the future of this site. In the fall I will be changing locations and computer platforms (Mac to PC), as well as servers. So that means the site won't be updated until I'm up and running with the new setup. The good news is I'll probably get my hands on better web software and Photoshop for a MUCH BETTER looking Foreign Screams. Stay tuned and thanks for the continuing support!

Friday, 8/30/02: Surprise! I'm back with a sizeable update for ya'll! Yep, I decided to include my four dvd reviews that I did for the now-defunct Splatterhouse website, a British cult/horror dvd review site. I decided to do this because, although these reviews are now over two years old (gasp!), they still contain relevant info, and of course they are no longer online elsewhere! As a bonus, I have updated all but one of the reviews with pertinent, new info. However, these are the only changes I've made of the reviews. So enjoy the first dvd reviews on this site! Just click on the new Splatterhouse DVD Reviews section and enjoy. More dvd reviews will follow, you can be sure of that. Till next time, in the words of George Romero, "Stay Scared"!

Saturday, 10/12/02: I'm BAACK! Sorry for the lengthy delay gang, but my life has been rather tumultuous lately! But I've got a nice chunky update for ya, with some amazing content! I have three-count em' three-capsule reviews on two vintage Thai horrors and one of the most elusive of all horror films- Sumpah Pontianak, a rare Malaysian horror film from the fifties! And all three are exclusive films for this site! Yowza! Go to the Capsule Reviews section now and start reading! I've also added a few great websites to the links page, including Morpho's Lair , which is an AMAZING genre site by David Zuzelo that covers oodles of cult/horror stuff. Definitely check that one out! Finally, there will be ANOTHER smaller update coming very soon...

Monday, 11/11/02: No update just yet gang (hiss! boo!), but I am working on some intriguing things. Most likely, there will be one LARGE update just before Christmas (I've got plenty of free time during the holidays) and subsequent smaller updates during the month of January. Patience-good things come to those who wait. Finally, I have added a voting link for the "Horror Top 100" site on my page's frontpage. I already have four votes-and my site's been on less than a day! Thanks so much for the support! And keep those votes a-comin'! I also added one new link to Steve Genier's Cinema Nocturna, a fun-filled website dedicated to Euro-cult and horror/cult in general! Check it out...

Saturday, 12/28/02: Hey! It's been a while! But have I got a meat n' potatoes update for YOU! I haven't just been sitting on my ass since the last update. Since then I've been constructing what is, in my humble opinion, THE Online reference for Joe D'Amato. I have written a 9 page (single spaced, of course) overview of the man's career and life, packing in as many details and rare info as possible (not to mention hi-res stills). The article uses no less than 15 sources (and rare ones, like the old DIABOLIK mags, ETC magazines, and more). Videos, books, magazines, websites and more were used. Not to mention my personal knowledge (of course!) and my correspondance with D'Amato star Katya Berger. Needless to say, there is MUCH exclusive material for this site found in the article. And, of course, the article has been exhaustively proofread per my obsessive grammatical/spelling standards, as well as double (and triple) checked for accuracy of information. The dates of the films are assumed to be the most accurate possible (won't find that on the internet movie database or some crummy pop-up laden fansite)! I honestly believe this is THE FINEST ONLINE DAMATO REFERENCE, hands down. Read it and see if you agree!

One more thing to keep in mind about the sporadic updates: I am the ONLY one who runs this website. I wouldn't have it any other way (how else can I maintain quality control and not review tired "obscure" horrors like The Beyond?). There are no contributing writers. No proofreaders, webdesigners or ANYONE ELSE. Everything is done by me, and this obviously takes SOME TIME. But I guaruntee that the wait for each update will be worth it!

Sunday, 1/5/03: A new year and two new capsule reviews! One for the rare blaxploitation horror The House on Skull Mountain and the other for the oddball HK horror Succubare!
