First found in Derbyshire where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest in 1066.

Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: John Twig settled in Philadelphia Pa. in 1856; Paul Twigg settled in New Haven, Conn. in 1820; Robert Twigg settled in Philadelphia in 1856; Allan Twiggs settled in the Barbados in 1685.
