1996 Kawasaki Ninja 500

The Real Thing.

Page Updated 4-2000

This Bike had only 1500 miles on it when I got it. The EX500 was chosen because I wanted one that was light and small enough to put it in a truck, and to keep the costs down. It's got plenty of pep to keep me happy. I decided to sell it for an SV650.

Here is a list of Tips I found out about the Ninja 500 that other EX500 owners ought to know also.

1. Fram Oil filters have problems and there's a recall. Buy it from Kawasaki.
2. Every one says the Stock Tires could be replaced with better ones. Metzler seems to be the popular choice.
3. The owner's manual says 3.6 qt of oil w/ filter change and 3.2 on page 67. 3.2 seems
to be the correct one, after I had to drain some out.
4. The Kawasaki Factory service Manuals are kinda weird. The engine is covered under the 454/500 LTD model Vulcan, with a supplement for the EX500. Best to order both if you want one.
5. I put Steel Braided Brake lines on. It does firm up the feel in the lever and the rear pedal. Plus, they look nice & ought to last longer.
