The first bio-filter arrives.  This is for a 4000 gallon pond.
Amazing!  So many labels required for shipment via truck!
Shaping the edge of the deep section.  The bottom is rock ledge.
Bottom of deep section with a bed of gravel.  On top of this must go sand, then padding, then finally, the liner.
As this pond is ornamental and will have plants in addition to fish, shelves will be needed.
The best way to carve a shelf from this rock is with a pick axe.
Removing more material from the area connecting the 2 ponds.
The view at the end of the 3rd day.  Progressing nicely!
More stumps, right in the area for the shelf!
We dug...
We chainsawed...
We pried...  And...  We got 'em!
We needed to get the final depth of the connector, but without hurting the old pond.
Some final shaping of the edge of the stepping stones support shelf.
Now we need to create the plant shelf.  It is much easier, albeit dirtier, to pick axe wet soil.
Here we've spread some gravel to make a good foundation for the sand, and to make the upcoming concrete work easier.
The shelves now have gravel, and in the back, you can see the concrete blocks supporting the edge of the bluestone.
We think it looks like a pond already!
