This was our first drawing to show the relationships of the garden elements to the 5000 gallon Ornamental Pond.  There was an existing 400 gallon goldfish pond that we installed in 1992.  We created the other beds in the intervening years.  There are three Maple trees which are only four feet behind the waterfall, and those limited the size and location of the project.  We did the layout that you see in the below pictures to get the curves and the placement for the new pond.

 

First we measured the area and laid out a hose to get the right curves.
Then we outlined both the pond and new planting bed with spraypainting.
These are the maple trees which will be directly behind the waterfall.
We decided to include the maples in our new bed.
