If the plumbing isn't right, the pond becomes a waste dump,

and fish HATE that!

These are the 2" flexible pipes coming off the 2 pumps located in the skimmer.  We first ran them directly to the bio-filters just so we could get the pond running and start the maturation of the filters.  Later, we added all the valves and other connections.
The above diagram indicates how many of each type and size of fitting was needed. It's important to dry fit everything and lay it out before cutting the pipe and gluing the fittings.
The actual work is quick and simple - it's the design that's the hard part!  The plumbing pit has a brick surrounding wall, and is covered with 2 sealed plywood covers (with big handles, so they are easy to lift).  It is covered in mulch, and if you didn't know it was there, you would think it was part of the landscaping!
Here's how all the plumbing is fit into the pit!  Every pipe and fitting is labeled as to use and flow direction, and the valves are tested!  A good plumbing design greatly increases the ease of maintenance and enjoyment of the pond!
