A separate pump cascades water down the rocks connecting the 2 ponds,
and looks like the small pond is emptying into the large one!
|
Here it is! The bridge is bolted in place, the waterfall is
running, and the Koi are enjoying their new home! Feeding is done
from the patio in front of the "Zen Rock"!
|
The final planting surrounding the west side of the pond. The
grass pathway between the pond and the tree peony bed has been seeded and
mulched, and should be fabulous in the spring!
|
Reflections of the 3 maples behind the water fall - you can just make
out some of the fish!
|
Fish do not hibernate, but their bodies slow down in the cold
water. They are not fed whenever the water temperature is lower than
50 degrees, so in CT they must live on reserves for several months!
|
Looking very reminiscent of Niigata, Japan, where the fish were bred!
The ponds are lovely in the winter, but we miss the sounds of the
waterfall! The night lighting is spectacular under the ice and snow!
|
Deep snow on the little pond! The hole is where the stock tank
heater keeps an opening for gas exchange while the fish are under the
ice. There is a tank heater in each pond, and this small hole is
enough to keep the fish healthy until spring!
|
Guess we won't be using this bridge much until spring!
Thanks for visiting with us!
