Museum News and Updates

Thanks to a donation from Walter Gassett and his family, we are now in possession of an 1864 Civil War diary. The author, Oscar Gassett, enlisted in the 56th Mass. Vols., Company A and his journal includes details of his capture near the battle of Wilderness, VA and his stay in Andersonville Prison until his parole in November of that year. This diary is a wonderful addition to our growing research library and a transcript of the journal in its entirety will be available to library patrons. Museum visitors will be able to view the diary itself on display. Please click here to read more on the Gassett Diary and to view a sample of the transcript.
