We here at the New England Civil War Museum are pleased to help those seeking information about the American Civil War, whether it be simple historical information for research projects or tracing Civil War ancestry. The museum and the O'Connell/Chapman Historical Library are not, however, a genealogical facility. While we do possess some local records and Adjutant Generals' reports, the museum is not a repository of military information. These records are not complete in many cases. Furthermore, we can only provide basic information on those soldiers that served directly in the Civil War, such as place and date of enlistment, regiment information, etc. We also try to verify this information via the Civil War Database, which provides a more extensive but again imperfect research tool. We are even more limited in our resources concerning specific members of Grand Army Posts. Our researchers are knowledgable in a broad spectrum of general GAR history, but we only have records of some local individual GAR members that met at this hall. For those individuals seeking to enhance their genealogical research beyond this basic knowledge, we at the museum are sorry that we cannot provide more assistance and we wish you happy hunting in your future research. You might want to try the Connecticut State Library's Genealogical Department at http://www.cslib.org/handg.htm
We at the New England Civil War Museum are also unable to provide appraisal information on Civil War relics or historical pieces of any kind. While our staff consists of many historical enthusiasts from all walks of life, we are not experts in antique dealing. We will be happy to provide historical information regarding Civil War items if possible, but we cannot assess monetary value. Besides, history is priceless.
Welcome to our website! We hope that you enjoy what you find here and we hope you will visit us in Rockville, Connecticut.
