Footbridge over the Quinebaug River in Putnam

The trail head in Putnam starts at the left of this footbridge over the Quinebaug River.   There is ample parking nearby on Kennedy Drive.  (4/2002)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A closer view of the footbridge over the Quinebaug River in Putnam.  The footbridge rests on bridge abutments from the original 1873 railroad bridge which was about 25 feet higher.  (4/2002)

The rail trail (and once the railroad) share this passage beneath Connecticut Route 44 in Pomfret with the Abington Brook.  There are some drainage problems, as you can plainly see.  This is the view looking from the north side of the highway.  (4/2002)
