Jonathan Eads [Parents] was born 1 in Mar 1792 in Washington Co. MD. He died 2 in 1834 in Scott Co. KY. He married 3 Polly Johnson on Jul 16 1827 in Fayette Co. KY.

Other marriages:
Self, Cary Ann

Birth date calculated from information in his apprenticeship contract-per Carolle Breading-May 2000. Jonathon was a blacksmith. Died intestate and insolvent leaving many matters unsettled. Info from census, Fayette Co. KY marriage records, Scott Co., KY court filings. Children listen in order shown on certain court filings.

Notes from Carolle Breading May 2000-"The first Jonathon died in Harrison Co., KY in 1806. Harrison Co. records contain the will, inventory and sale of personal property, and appointment of guardians for four of his six known children. Our Jonathon chose his brother-in-law as his guardian in 1807. Early in 1808, the guardian signed papers to apprentice Jonathon to John Eads, blacksmith, of Lexington, KY. On July 25th, 1810, Fayette Co. KY, records show that Jonathon Eads was issued a license to marry Cary Self, her father, Charnock Self, having signed his consent on July 24th. It is interesting that the August 7th, 1810 issue of the Kentucky Gazette carried the item that John Eads had reported his apprentice, Jonathon Eads, age18, as a run away. The only property, other than blacksmith tools, Jonathon and Cary are known to have owned was Hettie, a slave and wedding gift from Cary's father, and the two sons she later had. Scott Co., KY records have been found to show that Jonathon was in financial trouble by 1825. The date and place of his death have not been found, however, a court case believed to have been filed in Scott Co., 1837-38, states the Jonathon Eads died intestate and insolvent in 1834, leaving judgments outstanding and unsatisfied. C. W.Eads was growing up during the time his father's fortunes fell, or failed to develop. The example seems to have served him well in his adult life."

"Jonathon Eads financial difficulties may have begun prior to the death of Cary (Self) Eads, but certainly continues after her death. One court record has been found which relates a prior case in which Mr. Self came forward to "save the bacon" to the benefit of his grandchildren."

Polly Johnson died . She married 1 Jonathan Eads on Jul 16 1827 in Fayette Co. KY.

Jonathan Eads died 1 in 1806 in Harrison Co. KY. He married Unknown Unknown.

From Carolle Breading-Will filed for probate 4/1806, followed by guardianships in 1807 and 1808.

Carolle Breading-article-Who was the wife of Jonathon Eads?

"Real estate records in Harrison Co. KY show that Jonathon Eads and wife, ANN, sold property there 8/1805. 'Eads Genealogy as Given Personally by David Eads', circulated on the letterhead of H. L. Eads, a descendant of David, gives Jonathon's wife as having been ANNIE FRY. The Eads Genealogy is flawed in many places, and near it's beginning, indicates DAVID HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

Eads Genealogy: Jonathon Eads was born in England, 1736, exiled to Maryland, 1760. Annie Fry also exiled and landed in Maryland. Bonded Passengers to America, by Coldham, Vol. II, has Ann Fry alias Hull, transported 5/1752-a possibility. Exile was usually followed by a period of indentured servitude.

Eads Genealogy: Jonathon Eads and Annie Fry were married in 1767. Now, we have a couple married 16 years before they began having children with regularity for the next 16 years.

Eads Genealogy: Jonathon died in 1806 in Maryland. David would have known his father died in KY-he was there.

Eads Genealogy: His widow married John Duffey in Ohio and died in Ohio. The marriage of Anne Eddes and James Duffee is recorded in Butler Co. OH 8/11/1808. IF this was the marriage of David's mother, HE WOULD HAVE KNOWN HIS STEP-FATHER'S NAME-he was a little boy at the time. It is strange that David would not have mentioned at least the year of his mother's death.

My conclusion - Jonathon Eads, born 1736, married Annie Fry 1767, was NOT the Jonathon Eads who enlisted in the army in 1775, along with a likely brother born 1755, moved to KY late 1790's-early 1800's, and died in 1806 leaving 6 known children as early 20's to under 10. Further, Roscoe Powers has done considerable research on the Frys of Maryland without finding an Ann, or anyone else, who married an Eads. He has found nothing on the Duffeys in Ohio. It appears to me, the beginning of the Eads Genealogy somehow came into the hands of David Eads, who in all good faith, attempted to document the family of David's father. I cannot accept it."

Notes from Carolle Breading May 2000-"Charnock Self, a Virginian, is known to have been in Fayette Co., KY in 1787. It is likely he was a part of a military unit sent to control the Shawnee Indians in the area. Exact dates are not known, but it is believed he brought his wife, two or three sons, and his slaves to the Lexington, KY area in the early 1790's. Real estate records of Fayette Co. show that Charnock Self engaged in buying and selling lots in
Lexington and other land in Fayette Co., and the counties later formed from both Fayette and Gallatin Co. Charnock Self died between August 1834 and February 1835. Exact dates and places have not been found."

On October 1, 1801, a Kentucky Militia Certificate #507 dated August 10, 1787 was issued to C.Self for service against the Shawnees. Charnock Self was on the Fayette Co. KYtax lists in 1787 with one horse.

"Silence (Cobb) Eads enjoyed the acceptance of two, possibly three, daughters of the first marriage. Newspaper clippings preserved by a granddaughter of the first marriage tell of family visits during the lifetime of C. W. Eads, and of special occasions attended by member and/or descendants of both marriages after his death. The collection has the obituary of Silence (Eads) Parsons who died in Wichita, KS, Sept. 26th, 1901."
