James Doran was born in 1730 in Doran's Castle, County Donegal, Ireland. He died in 1799 in Washington Co, VA. He married Margaret Gordon.
James and Margaret immigrated from Ireland in the early 1760s and first settled in Maryland. After the Rev. War they moved to Washington Co., VA. James served in the Rev. War.
One unverified piece of information is that James Doran was born at Castle Doran, County Donegal, Ireland. My family records state he was born in Co. Donegal but omit the castle part. I suppose he could be a younger son or he was born in a village named after a castle. I prefer to take this information with a large grain of salt until I can verify it.
Margaret Gordon died in Washington Co, VA. She married James Doran.

James Lowery Doran Russell [Parents] was born on May 14 1830. He died on Oct 28 1895. He married Delia Jane Unknown (Doran?).
James and Delia lived on the Douthett Branch in Jackson County, Alabama, only a short distance from the home of Major James Doran.
Delia Jane Unknown (Doran?) [Parents] was born on May 3 1813. She died on Dec 29 1913. She was buried in Doran's Cove Cemetery, Doran's Cove, AL. She married James Lowery Doran Russell.
Delia and James lived on the Douthett Branch in Jackson County, Alabama, only a short distance from the home of Major James Doran. Delia fell and broke her shoulder when she was 82 years old, developed pneumonia, and died a short time later. Chappell Russell Couch remembers that in her later years, Delia lived with her daughter (Orpha Stephen's) and that she would come to Chappell's parents house to make hominy an home made soup in a big black pot in the yard. She would tell all the grandchildren about the Yankees coming in 1864 and taking all her pigs. She said they took the pigs down to the spring to kill and dress them. They told her she could have what was left. She went down to the spring and all that was there was the entails. 1899-1908 records of the Southpittsburg Hustler (a newspaper) state in the society section that James Russell of Southpittsburg and Alex Russell of Anderson, TN visited their mother, Mrs. J.L.D. Russell, in Dorans Cove, most weekends.
