The Baber family was one of prominence in Pineville and the County. John served in the Civil War as Second Lt. Co. H 8th Reg. MO Infantry CSA. The Baber family was one of prominence in Pineville and the County. In 1859, John opened a grocery store and was a merchant in Pineville until 1890. John also served in politics for many years. He was elected (as a Democrat) to be county coroner in 1869 &1871 and served as county treasurer Nov. 8, 1874 through 1891. His residence in 1857 was located at Catoosa Co., Georgia, and moved to Pineville, December 1858. Witness in a murder trial of Dr. Chenoweth September 12, 1883. The 1910 Census shows him living with his daughter, Nannie. He is buried in the Pineville Cemetery without a stone.
