About the Name 'Galleria Dysphorya'

"Galleria" is traced through Italian roots, from Old Italian, from Medieval Latin, gallery.  The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition (Copyright © 2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company) defines "gallery" as "A building, an institution, or a room for the exhibition of artistic work," "An establishment that displays and sells works of art," and "A photographer's studio."

"Dysphorya" is an illegitimate variation of "dysphoria."  The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition (Copyright © 2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company) defines "dysphoria" as "An emotional state characterized by anxiety, depression, or unease."

As an undergraduate in Psychology, I found a chapter on Freudian theory that contrasted the opposite extremes of euphoria and dysphoria.  The social facet of my compulsory school experience had been filled with anxiety, sadness, and discomfort, and somehow the deceptively beautiful word "dysphoria" threw a peaceful cast over the memories of those turbulant, adolescent years.  "Galleria Dysphorya" seemed the best name for a collection of creative works borne from the introspection and solitude learned through years of perseverence.
