In the absence of any specific direction from
ranking guild members, I have created two versions
of a draft logotype. This draft uses a dragon to accentuate an "E"
in the signature Echelon typeface, Abaddon™. Both versions are shown on three colored backgrounds for example purposes.
If this design is not preferred, or if a
science-fiction element is required in the official
icon and logotype, Draft 1 can easily be abandoned
or altered to address thematic concerns.

Vector-based graphics contain curves and lines mathematically mapped, providing excellent scalability. These graphics are characterized by clean, modern edges and solid expanses of color. This style is popular in corporate culture. Generally speaking, the flatter and simpler the imagery, the greater the longevity.

Photo-realistic digital images are bitmapped, comprised of pixels of differing tones and colors. More detailed iconic imagery of photo-realistic graphics is prominent in entertainment advertising media. The shading and highlighting on the dragon are more visually interesting at larger sizes and provide some clarification of shape at smaller sizes.

Developing an organizational or corporate icon requires integration with the group's identity and name. Here, the "E" dragon icon is integrated into the guild name. From an iconic perspective, the dragon draws the eye and enhances the most significant word in the 2-word name (Echelon). The guild's signature font (Abaddon™ — a display font) has been preserved for identity purposes. The creed, "Fate Rewards Loyalty," has been included in a smaller font (Chaparral — a body font). Chaparral was selected for its "L"'s similarity to the Abaddon™ "L."

Clearly, an icon and logotype's value test is its position against competition. Here, The Echelon draft icon and logotype are featured on a T-shirt and within ign.com's Horizons guild listing. While this iconography would most likely be used against a black background in The Echelon's site, it is featured against candid white backgrounds to show its versatility and differentiation from logos of other guilds.
