Section 5.5   Polynomials

Vocabulary

A polynomial is a monomial or a sum of monomials.

A binomial is a polynomial with exactly two terms.

A trinomial is a polynomial with exactly three terms.

The numeric factor of a term is called the coefficient.

The degree of a term is the sum of the exponents of the variable.

The degree of a polynomial is the highest degree of its terms.

The term with the highest degree is called the leading term.

The coefficient of the leading term is called the leading coefficient.
