Section 4.2    The Addition  Properties of Inequalities 

Adding (or subtracting) the same number to (or from) each side of an inequality produces an equivalent inequality.

The Addition Property of  Inequalities

For all rational numbers a, b, and c,

                if a < b, then a + c < b + c

                if a > b, then a + c > b + c

Similar statements hold for ³ and £.
