Section 2.5 :  Multiplication of Rational Numbers

Property of Zero for Multiplication

For all real number  a,  a(0) = 0 and 0(a) = 0

 

Rules for Multiplying Real Numbers
To multiply two real numbers with opposite signs:

1.  Multiply their absolute value.

2.  The sign of the product is negative.

To multiply two real numbers with the same sign:

1.  Multiply their absolute value.

2.  The sign of the product is positive.
