Section 1.3  Exponential Notation 

Vocabulary

  • the third power or cubed

The exponent indicates the number of times the base is used as a factor.

Order of Operations

1.  Operate within grouping symbols first. Work from the inside to the out side.  

2.  Simplify powers.  

3.  Do all multiplications and divisions in order from left to right.

4.  Do all additions and subtractions in order from left to right.
