Mathematics is taught in the context of a college preparatory program that is consistent with the stated goal of Notre Dame High School. Every effort is made to use mathematics as a tool for higher learning and thinking skills in an atmosphere of cooperation and understanding. It is the department's goal to assist students in developing critical thinking, analytical, and problem solving skills used in mathematics for organization and logical thinking.

Calculators: Students are permitted to use calculators in their math classes. A basic scientific calculator is recommended for students enrolled in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Geometry. A graphing calculator is required for all other math courses. The TI 84 plus Silver Edition is strongly recommended.
