Dilation (p. 674) A dilation, or similarity transformation, is a transformation that has center C and scale factor n, where n > 0, and maps a point R to R in such a way that R is on CR and CR′ = nCR. The center of a dilation is its own image. If n > 1, the dilation is an enlargement, and if 0 < n < 1, the dilation is a reduction.
