Section 12.5 Symmetry Vocabulary
Symmetry (p. 662) A figure has symmetry if there is an isometry that maps the figure onto itself. Reflectional symmetry (p. 662) Reflectional symmetry, or line symmetry, is the type of symmetry for which there is a reflection that maps a figure onto itself. The reflection line is the line of symmetry. Rotational symmetry (p. 663) Rotational symmetry is the type of symmetry for which there is a rotation of 180° or less that maps the figure onto itself. Point symmetry (p. 663) Point symmetry is the type of symmetry for which there is a rotation of 180° that maps a figure onto itself.
