1990 Meriden Little League opened its 42nd season with three league circuit. The divisions are called the "Jack Barry" League, "Big Ed Walsh" League, and the "Connie Mack" League. South Meriden continues to operates as the South Meriden Youth League.

Ruth Bambino All-Star Tournament Play John Rosa went 4-for-four, including two home runs and Blake Marcantonio added three hits including a pair of doubles as South Meriden pounded New Haven, 15-2, in the semifinals of the District 1 Bambino baseball tournament at Habershon Park. The win put South Meriden in the finals where they once again play New Haven for the title. Rosa has hit four home runs in his last three games for the locals. The squad has scored 39 runs and 7 home runs in this years tournament play. Joey Annino, Sean Phostole, and Aaron Hunter had two hit each for the winners. South Meriden pitchers David Bryand, Rosa, and Marcantonio combined on a three-hitter while striking out 12 batters. John Rosa clubbed a pair of home runs including a grand slam in an eight-run second inning to help South Meriden to a 22-10 win over New Haven in the finals of the District 1 Bambino Baseball Tournament, Tuesday July 10,1989 at Habershon Park. The win brought home another District 1 Bambino Championship for the South Meriden All-Stars. Rosa who added a two-run homer in the third finished with 6 RBIs. Blake Marcantonio added a three-run home run in the fifth inning. Brian Waller went 5-for-5 and Jeff Milner was 4-for-5 to aid the South Meriden offense. Joey Annino was the winning pitcher. Greenwich scored a run in the top of the sixth-inning Friday July 20,1990, to defeat South Meriden 8-7 in the state championship final of the Connecticut Bambino Tournament for 12 year-olds. Winning pitcher Doug Thompson sparked Greenwich, boosting his own cause with a three-run homer. South Meriden, the District 1 Champions, had reached the finals by emerging from the losers bracket and defeating Greenwich, the winner's bracket survivors, 9-3.
District 5 Tournament Play The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars defeated Southington South 4-0 as Todd McNeil pitched a one-hitter, allowing three walks and striking out nine. Dave Caban and Brian Robinson both hit home runs and L.J. Tully went 2-for-3 to spark the Walsh offense. The locals also received strong support from Dave Gibson, Brian Robinson, Mike Altobello, and Dave Waskewicz. Southington's Ryan Peterson gave up seven hits and walked one. The Yalesville Little League All-Stars defeated Prospect 9-1, as Chris Ginolfi pitched a no-hitter. Paul Zelenski's bases loaded double drove in three runs to take the lead for good. Adding to the Yalesville offense were Mark Ludovico with a double, two singles and three RBIs, Jamie Chisholm with a single, double and two RBIs, and Brian Kelly two base hits. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars came from behind to defeat the McCabe-Waters All-Stars, 9-8, Saturday July 14,1990 at Bristol. L. J. Tully pitched four innings, giving up four hits before being relieved by Jeff Klakowski, who pitched the final two innings yielding one hit and striking out four. McCabe-Waters jumped out to an early 7-1 lead over the locals before Tully hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to cap the comeback by the Walsh Stars. Todd McNeil twirled a three-hitter and L.J. Tully blasted two home runs as the Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars won their third straight District 5 Tournament game, 10-3 over A.W. Stanley, Tuesday July 18,1990. Tully hit his first home run in the second to give Ed Walsh a 1-0 lead. Ed Walsh tallied three more runs in the fourth as Dave Caban led off with a triple, McNeil walked, followed by Tully's second home run.

1990 South Meriden Youth All-Stars, District 1 Bambino Champions Little League forms the Challenger Division for mentally and physically disabled children. Vice President Quayle and former big-league All-Star Mike Schmidt are enshrined into the Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum Hall of Excellence. Little League expands to include 39 countries. Chinese Taipei wins the World Series with a 9-0 win over Shippensburgh, PA.
1991 Meriden Little League opened its 43rd season with three leagues, the "Jack Barry" League, "Ed Walsh" League, and the "Connie Mack" League.
The Jack Barry Little League closed a page of the history book at its ballpark on Britannia Street, Saturday July 5,1991. The ballpark was the first Little League stadium in Meriden constructed in 1952 by volunteer workers from the community and was reconstructed during the summer of this year eliminating the short left-field fence. The reconstruction phase is the final part of the Meriden Parks & Recreation Departments plan to rehabilitate Meriden's Parks.

District 5 Tournament Play The Ed Walsh All-Stars of Meriden defeated Southington South 9-1 Saturday July 6,1991 in a first round district 5 game. Brian Robinson pitched a three-hitter and struck out 14 batters for the winners. Ed Walsh got on the scoreboard in the first inning when Scott Butkauskas and Doug Young each reached base and scored in the second, while Ashley Martella, Robinson, and Dave Waskowicz added singles in the third to drive in two more runs for Ed Walsh. Ed Walsh added four more runs in the fourth on a walk to Young, singles by Martella and Robinson and a double by Nando Parete. Jason Moss came up with a defensive gem in the fifth for Ed Walsh with a diving catch in left field. The Jack Barry Little League All-Stars handed Farmington an 11-8 defeat Tuesday July 9,1991 in District 5 tournament play. Alex Ortiz went the six-inning route to pick up the win rot the locals. The win was Jack Barry's second in three games in the double-elimination tournament. Andy Robinson led the Barry attack with a 3-for-3 performance that included a double. Mike Cerrane cracked a three-run home run for the winners, while teammate Steve Camire belted a solo homer. Daryl Yarmolovich hurled a perfect game to lead Southington North Little League to a 3-0 victory over Ed Walsh. Southington North stymied on just three hits by Ed Walsh pitcher Dave Waskowicz for four innings broke the game open in the fifth with a three-run rally highlighted by Jeff Tarigo's two-run homer. Ashley Martella, Dave Gibson, Scott Rutkauskas, and Jason Moss turned in fine defensive plays for the locals. The loss put the locals in the losers' bracket of the double-elimination tournament. Brian Robinson pitched a four-hit complete game and Nando Parete added a three-run homer to help the Ed Walsh All-Stars oust Wallingford from the District 5 tournament with a 7-3 win, July 13,1991. Ashley Martella and Doug Young drove in runs for the locals. Ed Walsh will play McCabe Waters of Bristol for their next assignment Gary Duhamel struck out eight batters in going the distance and the Jack Barry All-Stars scored three times in each of the first three innings to defeat Southington West 9-3. Keith Garcfeau had a two-run double, Alex Ortiz a two-run single, and Juan Ellin a solo home run to pace the Jack Barry offensive attack. Julio Bonilla chipped in with a pair of singles for the locals. Next up for the Barry stars will be Forestville. The Jack Barry All-Stars lost a heart breaker to the Forestville All-Stars 2-1 at DeZinno field on Tuesday July 16,1991. The Ed Walsh All-Stars advanced in the District 5 Tournament with an 11-4 victory Tuesday July 16,1991. Doug Young had three hits and Nando Parete hi his second homer of the tournament to pace the 14-hit attack. Jason Moss went the distance on the mound for the victory. Scott Rutkauskas, Doug Young, Brian Robinson, Heather Currie, and Jason Moss had hits for the locals. Next up Plainville. The Ed Walsh All-Stars reached the District 5 semifinals with a 4-3 win over host Plainville. Dave Waskowicz and Scott Rutkauskas combined for a four-hitter and Nando Parete and Waskowicz each slugged homers. It was the third tournament home run for Nando Parete, a three-run blast. Next up for the locals, Forestville. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars knocked Forestville out of the District 5 Tournament with a 4-2 win in Meriden on Saturday July 20,1991. Brian Robinson went the distance on the mound for Ed Walsh and Ashley Martella drilled two hits. Scott Rutkauskas and Nando Parete had key hits for the locals. Next up for the locals, A.W. Stanley. Dave Gibson drew a walk with the bases loaded in the sixth inning as the Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars advanced to the final round of the District 5 tournament with a 1-0 victory over A.W. Stanley of New Britain on Wednesday July 20,1991. Jason Moss of Ed Walsh and Corrie Lewis of A. W. Stanley were locked up in a pitchers duel for six innings. Moss allowed just five hits and struck out nine. Lewis gave up six hits and also struck out nine. Ashley Martella singled and Nando Parete clubbed a ground-rule double to start off the sixth inning. Lewis then walked Dave Waskowicz to load the bases, setting up Gibson's base on balls to force home the only run of the game. Ed Walsh now travels to Berlin and must win twice to capture the District 5 championship. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars forced a final game in the District 5 Tournament Thursday July 25,1991 with a 4-2 win over Berlin. Ed Walsh's Brian Robinson pitched a five-hit complete game and retired the last six batters he faced to get the win. Scott Rutkauskas and Doug Young each collected two hits to pace the offense. Ed Walsh tied the score at one in the first when Rutkauskas and Young hit back-to-back singles. Tim Bellemare also collected a hit for the locals in the three-run fourth. Berlin captured the District 5 Little League Tournament title with a 3-2 win over Ed Walsh All-Stars Saturday July 27,1991 at Ed Walsh field. Ed Walsh pitchers Ashley Martella, Jason Moss, and Scott Rutkauskas combined for a two-hitter, but three walks and a past ball in the sixth inning provided the margin of victory for Berlin. Ed Walsh took an early lead in the first inning as Doug Young singled and scored on Nando Parete's double. Parete later scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 lead. Berlin tied the game in the third on a two-run home run by Steve Murphy. In the sixth inning Berlin scored the winning run with two outs and the bases loaded on a past ball

Ruth Bambino All-Star Tournament Play The South Meriden All-Stars lost to Ledyard, 4-2, Tuesday July 21,1992, in the losers bracket final of the Connecticut 12-year old Banbino Tournament at Habershon Field. The loss eliminated South Meriden from tournament play. Ledyard advanced to the final round where it will face winners bracket survivor New Canaan. Corin Parish paced South Meriden with a pair of hits. Collecting one single each were Eric Gagne, Jorge Diaz, and Dennis Lampron. In game one of the tournament, South Meriden defeated Woodbridge 7-2 as Diaz homered while Gagne and Parish doubled. Darrin Cooper and Brian Peruti added a pair of singles. In South Meriden's second contest, they nipped Bethal 1-0. Jeff Poach and Mike Petroski had singles to pace the win. South Meriden suffered its first tournament loss, a 12-6 setback to New Canaan. Parish had two singles and Cooper had one Throughout the tournament, South Meriden received strong pitching from Darinn Cooper, Corin Parish, Jim Grady, Jason Waller, Jerry Gaj and Jeff Poach.
District 5 Tournament Play Eric Lopez tossed a three-hitter as the Jack Barry All-Stars defeated Wallingford 8-1 in the opening round of the District 5 double elimination Little League Tournament on Monday July 1,1992, at the Jack Barry field. Chad Uhlman went 3-4 at the plate with a double and two singles, and scored three runs. Kelvin Riddle also had three hits for the winners. Also on Monday, July 1,1992, the Connie Mack All-Stars lost to Plainville 4-2 to fall into the losers bracket of the double elimination tournament. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars defeated Edgewood of Bristol, Saturday July 6,1992. On Saturday July 6,1992 the Connie Mack All Stars, lost to the Prospect All-Stars at Ben DeZinno Park in Meriden. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars defeated the Farmington Little League All-Stars to advance in District 5 play. Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars suffered their first loss to Southington North, 6-5, on Saturday July 20,1992. Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars battled back from a 3-0 deficit Tuesday July 23,1992, to defeat Bristol 8-6. Mike Panstoni's game winning two-run home run in the sixth inning broke a 6-6 tie. Strong pitching by Jason Moss helped the locals. The offense was led by timely hitting and sharp defense by Moss, Ashley Martella, and catcher Josh Asplund sparked Ed Walsh's come-from-behind victory. The Ed Walsh All-Stars of Meriden broke a 4-4 deadlock on Tom Wojcik's game winning hit in the fifth inning Friday, July 25,1992 to defeat Forestville 5-4 and advance to the losers bracket finals of the District 5 tournament. The locals broke on top 2-0 in the first inning with a rally keyed by Bill Robinson's single. Forestville scored three in the second but Ed Walsh tied the game in the third. Ashley Martella went the distance on the mound to pick up the win. The Southington North Little League All-Stars defeated the Ed Walsh All-Stars, 7-0, Saturday July 26,1992, at Memorial Park in the District 5 finals of the losers bracket. The lose eliminated the locals from tournament play and placed Southington in the finals against Berlin on Monday July 28,1992.

1992 South Meriden Youth All-Stars, District 1 Champions A "Pool" format is adopted for the World Series, ensuring that each team plays at least three significant games in the series. A lighting system is installed at Howard J. Lamade Stadium, illuminating the first Little League World Series night game. Long Beach California is named Little League World Series Champion after Zamboanga, City Little League, Philippines, is disqualified. The standard disqualification score of 6-0 is used.

District 5 Tournament Play The Jack Barry Little League All-Stars opened District 5 play by defeating Southington South, 5-0, Tuesday July 13,1993. Winning pitcher Alex Martinez went the distance allowing only two hits. The Connie Mack All Stars were defeated 13-5 by the New Britain All-Stars at A.W. Stanley Field, Monday July 12,1993. Harvey Febles was the losing pitcher allowing eight hits and striking out seven for the locals. Top hitters for the Mack stars were Dan Cersale, Paul Dorschied, Harvey Febles, Kris Verona, Kevin Roman, and Edwin Colon.. The Ed Walsh All-Stars opened District 5 play with a 7-1 victory over the Edgewood All-Stars of Bristol, Monday July 12,1993. Steve Heck was the winning pitcher striking out five Edgewood batters. Ricky Fritsch relieved Heck in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and got out of the jam with a fly ball to right-fielder Sean Francis for the third out. Kevin Tidmarsh was the third Walsh pitcher who pitched a perfect sixth to seal the victory. Paul Cerretta led the offense going 3-2, along with Chris Rowe's two hits. Shortstop Matt Dorsey and catcher Josh Asplund played solid defense. The Connie Mack All-Stars were defeated by the Edgewood All-Stars on Tuesday July 13, 1993 at the locals field by a score of 4-0. The lose eliminated the Mack stars from District 5 competition. The Berlin Little League All-Stars defeated the Jack Barry All-Stars 18-1, Thursday July 15,1993. Leading the Berlin offense was Bill Robinson who stroked two home runs, including a grand slam. Meriden's key hit was a solo home run from Eugene Jackson Jr. The Ed Walsh All-Stars defeated A.W. Stanley in New Britain, 8-6, Thursday July 15,1993. Kevin Tidmarsh was the winning pitcher for the locals. Ricky Fritsch paced the offense by going 2-for-3 with two RBI's and three runs scored. Also providing hits were Josh Asplund, Chris Rowe, and Sean Francis. The defense was led by Chris Rowe, Mike Casey, Steve Heck, Ricky Fritsch, Matt Dorsey, and Paul Cerretta. The Southington North Little League All-Stars defeated the Ed Walsh All-Stars, 18-1, on Sunday July 18,1993. Kevin Tidmarsh's single drove in Chris Rowe for the only Ed Walsh run. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars were eliminated from District 5 play Tuesday July 20,1993, as they were beaten 10-5. Matt Dorsey and Josh Asplund led the locals offense with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate. Chris Rowe added two hits while Kevin Tidmarsh and Sean Francis had one hit apiece. RBI's were delivered by Asplund, Francis, and Steve Heck. Ricky Fritsh pitched well in relief for the Walsh Stars.

1993 Connie Mack All-Stars Long Beach California gets a 3-2 win over a team from Chiquiri, Panama, to become the first U. S. team to win consecutive Little League Baseball World Series Championships.

Ruth Bambino All-Star Tournament Play The South Meriden Bambino 12 year-old All-Stars won their opening district game, Wednesday July 6,1994 at Habershon Field, with a 9-1 win over Woodbridge. Jessie Anziano, Rich Roberson, and Zack Grant combined the pitching duties to get the victory while John Cerrone and Chris Kazes both had three hits to lead the offense. Brenden Kelleher added a pair of hits and a pair of runs while Tom Roberts had a hit and scored twice.
District 5 Tournament Play The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars defeated the A. W. Stanley All-Stars of New Britain Friday July 8,1994. Paul Cerreta pitched a one-hitter with 16 strike-outs for the victory. Ricky Fritsch and Danny Warro hit home runs and Kevin Tidmarsh had two hits. Dan McManee, Chris Rowe, and Mark Zanetto each had one hit for the locals. The Jack Barry Little League All-Stars lost to the Bristol McCabe-Waters All-Stars 6-0, Wednesday July 8,1994. Mike Lutz pitched a fine game for the Barry Stars. Josh LaMay and Tim Robinson played well in the field for the locals. Louis Gold sparkled at shortstop and Dave Luft and Robert Woodtke also played well for the locals. Ricky Fritsch allowed three hits over five innings as the Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars blanked the Wallingford Little League All-Stars 7-0. Chris Rowe hurled a 1-2-3 sixth inning to seal the victory. Danny Warro hit his second home run of the tournament and Fritsch had two hits to lead the offense. Nick Cacaci, Chris Moss, Chris Rowe, Kevin Tidmarsh, and Eric Smith had one hit each. The Jack Barry Little League All-Stars were eliminated from District 5 play as they lost to the Plainville All-Stars 6-2. Josh LaMay and Tim Robinson shared the pitching duties for the locals as they finished this years tournament with a 0-2 record. The Southington West Little League All-Stars defeated the Ed Walsh All-Stars 4-0, Saturday July 16,1994, despite a three-hit pitching performance by Paul Cerreta. Brian Mascaro pitched a two-hitter for Southington, striking out 16 batters. Kevin Tidmarsh and Chris Moss had one hit each for Ed Walsh. On Monday July 18,1994, the Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars advanced in the losers bracket with a 6-1 win over Southington North. Paul Cerreta had two hits, including a three-run homer. Nick Cacaci and Kevin Tidmarsh each contributed two hits, Chris Rowe, Ricky Fritsch, and Mark Zanetto had one hit each. Eric Smith collected two walks and Ricky Fritsch pitched a complete game three-hitter for the victory.

1994 South Meriden All-Stars Coquivacoa Little League of Maracaibo, Venezuela, becomes the first Latin American team to win the Little League World Series since 1958 with a 4-3 win over Northridge California Little League. The game is punctuated by a record three-hour six-minute rain delay. Stephen D. Keener succeeds Dr. Creighton J. Hale, becoming the first Little League graduate to be named president of Little League Baseball.

Ruth Bambino All-Star Tournament Play The South Meriden Youth League rallied to beat Ledyard 6-5 and win the Babe Ruth-Bambino League State Championship for 12-year olds Friday July 21,1995 at Habershon Park. The team advanced to the New England Bambino Tournament starting July 29,1995 in West Warwick R.I.. Patrick Austin and Danny Geoffery drove in runs for the locals to lead the offense. South Meriden's Craig Canfield pitched the last few innings for the victory. Pequawket, Main ended Meriden's run in the Babe Ruth Bambino New England Regional Tournament with a 11-1 victory at Lawerence Visconti Memorial StadiumThursday August 10,1995.

1995 South Meriden All-Stars Bambino State Champion Hall of famer Stan Musial throws out the first pitch. Chinese Taipei regains the World Series title with a 17-3 win over Spring Texas Little League. Little League Headquarters dedicated the Children's Housing and recreation area of the International Headquarters complex as the Dr. Creighton J. Hale International Grove in recognition of Dr. Hale's dedication efforts to make the Little League program available to children of all nations.

The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars defeated the Edgewood All-Stars of Bristol 11-1. Trey Bongiovanni had a complete game three-hitter while Alex D'Astous smashed a two-run homer to pace the locals. The Jack Barry All-Stars were defeated by the Berlin All-Stars eliminating the locals from the District 5 Tournament. The Barry Stars finished 0-2 in district play. Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars beat Berlin 5-1 as Charlie Hesseltine struck out eight batters in a complete game two-hitter. Steve Mandeville paced the offense with a pair of hits while Alex D'Astous, P.J. Rossitto, Andrew Cooke, and Alex Zerio had one hit each.

1996 Connie Mack All-Stars Little League Baseball celebrates the 50th anniversary of the World Series with the naming of a commemorative team and a ball toss in the style of the Olympic torch relay. Kutno, Poland opens a Regional Headquarters, the first outside the United States. The John W. Lunday Little League Conference Center is dedicated. Chinese Taipei wins its 17th World Series title with a 13-3 win over Western Little League of Cranston RI.
1997 Meriden Little League opened its 49th season with two leagues, the "Jack Barry" League and the "Ed Walsh" League. South Meriden continues to operates as the South Meriden Youth League.

Ruth Bambino All-Star Tournament Play South Meriden blanked New Haven 4-0 to win the District II Bambino Championship Friday July 11,1997. Corey Alexis allowed only one hit and struck out seven in five innings of work and Phil Vitale provided the offense with two hits and two RBI's. Casey Grant and Scott Robinson were solid on defense. In Bambino State Tournament play, South Meriden downed West Norwalk 14-5. Pitchers Phil Vitale, Corey Alexis, and Mike Williams combined on a six-hitter for the locals. Alexis also paced the offense with four hits, two RBI's and two runs scored. Casey Grant added three hits and Chris Culver chipped in with a two-RBI double.
District 5 Tournament Play The Jack Barry All-Stars defeated the New Britain All-Stars 9-1 as Christian Roman pitched a complete game two-hitter and homered for the Jack Barry nine. The District 5 win was the first for the Barry All-Stars since 1993 and ended a eight game District 5 losing streak. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars defeated Southington South 5-1 in District 5 tournament play, July 7,1997. Charlie Hesseltine and Trey Bongiovanni helped the locals with a solid offensive and defensive performance. The Jack Barry All-Stars were defeated by the Southington North All-Stars 18-8. The lose bumped the locals into the losers bracket of the double elimination tournament. The Barry Stars will now travel to Bristol to face a strong Edgewood team. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars downed Plainville, 6-0 to advance in the winners bracket of the District 5 tournament. Charlie Hesseltine and Trey Bongiovanni helped the locals with a solid offensive and defensive performance. Clutch hitting by Chris Ritchie drove in Paul Holoczyk with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth as the Jack Barry All-Stars defeated the Edgewood All-Stars 5-4. The win was the locals second in three tournament games and moved them to the next round to face a strong Berlin team. The Jack Barry All-Stars were defeated by the Berlin All-Stars 5-2 in District 5 play. Jack Barry completed a successful tournament showing by posting a 2-2 record. Christian Roman played another fine game for the locals. The Berlin All-Stars edged the Ed Walsh All-Stars 3-2 Thursday July 17,1997 at Kogut Memorial Field in Meriden. The locals suffered their first tournament loss of the year and go again July 18 with the winner taking home the District 5 Championship. Berlin built a 3-0 lead in the third inning and held on for the victory. Winning pitcher Enzo Dastoli delivered the games key hit, a double to left to drive in two runs. In the bottom of the fourth Ed Walsh struck back with Anthony Pascucci's two-run homer. Trey Bongiovanni allowed only four hits and suffered the loss after entering the tournament with a 2-0 record. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars captured the District 5 Championship Friday July 18,1997, by downing Berlin 7-0 at Garrity Field. Ed Walsh pitcher Charlie Hesseltine led the way dominating the Berlin batters, striking out 15 to get his third win of the tournament. Hesseltine faced 21 batters, allowing two hits and walking one. He struck out the side in the fifth and sixth inning and retired the last 11 batters he faced. The Meriden squad got on the board in the third inning when Matt Kopek reached first on a fielders choice, Patric Orzel and Steve Meckel singled to load the bases for Jason Beckwith who followed with a two RBI double. Mike Terrenzi followed with another double for two more RBI's to give the locals a 4-0 lead. Trey Bongiovanni, Meckel, and Terrenzi also had RBI singles in the fifth inning for the locals. Ed Walsh manager Ralph Carey has coached the Ed Walsh All-Stars since 1986 and has been affiliated with the league since 1979, this was his first District 5 Championship in his 18 years of service with the league.
State Tournament Play The Ed Walsh All-Stars dropped into the losers bracket of the Little League State Tournament Wednesday July 23,1997, with a 7-3 lose to Prospect at Garrity Field, Berlin. Prospects Ed Giamatteri out-dueled Charlie Hesseltine to get the Victory. Giamatteri scattered six hits, nine strikeouts, and allowed only one walk.. Hesseltine struck out six, walked one and allowed five hits. Trey Bongiovanni broke a 2-2 tie with a home run in the bottom of the fifth to give the locals the lead going into the sixth inning. Prospect scored five runs in the top of the sixth to secure the win. The Ed Walsh All-Stars edged the Stamford National All-Stars 3-2 on Friday July 25,1997 to advance in the State Little League Tournament. Trey Bongiovanni allowed four hits, struck out 14, and allowed two walks to get the win. Troy Messier hit a two-run homer for the Stamford Nationals in the fifth. Bongiovanni struck out Messier and Pete Fisher in the sixth with the tying and winning runs in scoring position. Ed Walsh score all three of its runs in the first inning when Mike Terrenzi doubled and Anthony Pascucci and Matt Kopek added infield singles. Seth Dolan also contributed with an RBI ground out. The Ed Walsh Little League defeated the Prospect All-Stars 2-0, Saturday July 26,1997 at Berlin's Garrity Field. Walsh pitcher Charlie Hesseltine out-dueled Prospect's Mike Padovani to get the win. Both pitchers ended up with complete game one-hitters. Padovani faced 21 batters, striking out 11 and walking none. Hesseltine faced 20 batters, walked one and struck out 11. Ed Walsh got all there runs in the first inning when Padovani hit the first batter Mike Terrenzi, and Trey Bongiovanni followed with a two-run homer. Joey Stankus had the lone Berlin hit. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning and pitcher Trey Bongiovanni made them hold up as the locals defeated Prospect 2-1, to capture the Sectional 1 Title and advance to the state finals. Bongiovanni allowed three hits while striking out 12 and walking none to get the win. Jason Beckwith had an RBI single for the Walsh All-Stars. Trey Bongiovanni sparked the offense and Charlie Hesseltine pitched another solid game Thursday July 31, 1997, as the Ed Walsh All-Stars defeated Rocky Hill 5-1 in the Little League State championship series. The win put Ed Walsh up one game to none in the best-of-three series. Bongiovanni drove in all the Ed Walsh runs with a pair of home runs, a grand slam in the fourth and a solo shot in the fifth. The Ed Walsh offense tallied seven hits for the game, with Bongiovanni and Matt Kopek getting two apiece, Charlie Hesseltine, Anthony Pascucci and Jason Beckwith chipped in with one hit each. Hesseltine struck out eight batters in going the distance for the locals. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars downed the Rocky Hill All-Stars 4-1 to win the Connecticut State Championship, Friday August 1,1997. With the win, the Meriden team advanced to the Eastern Regional Tournament at the Giamatti Little League Complex in Bristol CT. Trey Bongiovanni went the distance, allowing two-hits, striking out 10 and a walking two. Anthony Pascucci had a home run and Robert Tencza had a double and a single for the locals. The Ed Walsh Little League, established in 1949, became the first Meriden league to win the Connecticut State Championship.

Tournament Rules Are Enforced On Tuesday August 5,1997, the Pennsylvania Champion Railway Parkway beat the Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars 3-0. Alex Miranda pitched a no-hitter, striking out 12 and walking none for the victory. The Meriden squad managed only one base runner against Miranda, as Anthony Pascucci reached on an error in the second inning. Ed Walsh left-hander Charlie Hesseltine allowed only two hits over five innings, struck out 10 and walked two for the locals. The Connecticut State Champion Ed Walsh Little League defeated Maine Champion Auburn Suburban 4-2, in the Little League Eastern Region Tournament, Wednesday August 6,1997. Trey Bongiovanni and Charlie Hessseltine supplied virtually all of the Ed Walsh offensive punch as the pair collected all five hits, scored four runs and drove in three. Seth Dolan's RBI ground-out accounted for the other run. Bongiovanni pitched a complete game to get the victory for the Ed Walsh Stars. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars moved one step closer to a Little League Semifinal berth with a 3-0 win over Cranston, R.I., Friday August 8,1997. Charlie Hesseltine pitched his second straight two-hitter, striking out six and walking two to pick up the victory. The Ed Walsh offense tallied five hits, one each from Mike Terrenzi, Trey Bongiovanni, Anthony Pascucci, Seth Dolan, and Robert Tencza. Tencza picked up the only RBI's with a single in the sixth to drive in two. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars dropped a 2-1 decision to North Hunterdon Little League of New Jersey, Sunday August 10,1997. The lose coupled with Maine's 4-2 victory over Rhode Island and a 4-0 PA win over New Jersey sends the Ed Walsh team into the semifinal round for a rematch with Pennsylvania. Ed Walsh scored its only runs in the fourth inning on consecutive singles by Seth Dolan, Robert Tencza, Matt Kopek and pitcher Trey Bongiovanni. Taking the lose was Bongiovanni, who pitched a great game for the locals. New Jersey won the game with two outs in the sixth when Jordan Gargas singled to right scoring Drew Mazura. Dave Hoffman was the winning pitcher for New Jersey.

District 5 Tournament Play The Jack Barry All-Stars were defeated at home 5-4 by the Edgewood All-Stars, Monday July 6,1998. Pedro Hernandez and Frank Mohr Jr. both had key hits to drive in the Jack Barry runs. Andy Lomba pitched an excellent game for the Barry nine. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars, last years District 5 and Connecticut State champions, lost its first round game to Southington North, Monday July 6,1998. The lose pushed the locals into the losers. The Jack Barry All-Stars were eliminated from the District 5 Tournament as they bowed to Farmington, in Farmington by a score of 11-1. Frank Mohr had the only hit for the locals with a double off the fence. The locals finished District 5 play with an 0-2 record. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars stayed alive in District 5 tournament action with a victory over A.W. Stanley of New Britain. Seth Dolan led the offense as he collected three hit for the Walsh All-Stars. The Ed Walsh Little League All-Stars were eliminated from the District 5 Tournament on Friday July 10,1998. The Berlin All-Stars, who were ousted by Ed Walsh in last years tournament, dashed any hopes of the locals repeating as District 5 champs with a 10-1 victory. The Plainville Little League All-Stars won their first ever District 5 Championship, as they defeated the Southington North All-Stars 5-0, Saturday July 18,1998. Southington North which won district and state championships in 1993 and 1996 were beaten twice by Plainville in the last two days to fall short of a third District 5 Title in six years. Plainville was led by winning pitcher Frank Jarusinski who went the distance, striking out nine, walking none and allowing only two hits. The two Southington hits were singles by Jordan Casarella and Matt Gotowala. Greg Miner led the Plainville Stars with a two-RBI bases loaded single in the fifth inning. Tim George added an RBI double to help the Southington cause.

1998 Big Ed Walsh All-Stars Todd Fraizer, Scott Fisher, Casey Gaynor, and Chris Cardone all had home-runs for Toms River, New Jersey on their way to a 12-9 victory over Kashima, Japan to win the Little League World series Championship.
1999 Meriden Little League opened its 51st season with two leagues, the "Jack Barry" League and the "Ed Walsh" League. Both Jack Barry Little League and Ed Walsh Little League enjoy their 50th year anniversary. South Meriden continues to operates as the South Meriden Youth League.
JBLL Launches Web Site JBLL Opening Day Special guest speakers Mayor Joe Marinan and State Representative Buddy Altobello participated in the opening day ceremonies. State Representative Buddy Altobello presented the Jack Barry League with a beautiful plaque commemorating our fifty years of Little League in Meriden and Mayor Marinan followed by firing the inaugural pitch to catcher Scott Wagner of Aresco's Superette. The Rev. Robert Broesler of Saint Andrews Church delivered the invocation.

District 5 Tournament Play Marc Verderame pitched a one-hitter to lead the Southington North All-Stars to a rout of Jack Barry, 14-0, in Southington, on July 6,1999. David Martinez had the lone hit for the Barry nine. The Ed Walsh All-Stars lost 8-4 to Yalesville, at the Ed Walsh Field in Meriden, July 6,1999. The Ed Walsh All-Stars defeated the New Britain National, Thursday July 8,1999, 12 to 6. Jack Barry All-Stars lost to the Plainville All-Stars by the score of 13-3, Friday July 9,1999, before 150 fans in Plainville. It was a close game until the 5th inning when Plainville pulled away for the win. Bhreon Bynum, Billy English, Justin Febles, and Scott Wagner played well for the Barry Stars. The locals finished the double-elimination tournament 0-2 for the second year in a row. The Ed Walsh All-Stars lost in District 5 play finishing the double-elimination tournament with a 1-2 record.
