Lynn Luca, daughter of Mr. and Mrs., James Luca of 72 Woodland Street, was named to the Connie Mack Little League tournament roster. Officials say that she is the first girl from the state to ever make such a team. A spokesperson at the leagues national headquarters in Williamsport, PA said, however, it could not be immediately determined id Miss Luca was actually the first in the nation.
The craze for girls to play Little League ball began several years ago and culminated last season when national headquarters gave official word allowing girls to play in the previously all-male sport.
Prior to this, leagues across the country had many confrontations with citizens over allowing girls to participate. Some parents even filed law suits over the issue.
